About the Artists
BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Carol Frederick Collection is a unique line of jewelry designed and manufactured in the United States by the husband and wife team of Carol Chapman and Fred Slautterback. Their company, Slautterback Chapman Fine Arts, was founded in 2001 and is located in Carmel, California on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula.

Carol and Fred are professional artists. Carol is a graduate of Smith College and also studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and The Art’s Student’s League, New York City. Carol’s art is internationally recognized and was carried by Christie’s Contemporary Art in Tokyo, London and New York. She was published by the Pompidou Center and widely shown in Japan.

Fred majored in engineering at the University of Cincinnati and has an MBA from Santa Clara University. He had extensive experience in manufacturing and marketing at Dow Chemical and Raychem Corporation. He was the founder of Slautterback Corporation which became a leader in high performance adhesive application machinery for food packaging industries.

The Carol Frederick Collection was launched in 2004. The jewelry artwork is a mixture of mediums on a variety of substrates including retouched giclees. One medium, Touleen, was invented by Fred and is found nowhere else in the world. Once the art is mounted in the jewelry body it is sealed and encapsulated in a clear polymer resin using a proprietary process developed by Fred.

One final note, Fred invented and patented a special necklace clasp called the FAS-Clasp. It is quite unique and easy to use.
